IP stands for Internet Protocol. It is a set of rules that governs how data is sent and received over the internet or a local network. IP is responsible for addressing and routing data packets so that they can reach the correct destination.
There are two main versions of IP:
IPv4 (Internet Protocol version 4): This is the most widely used version, consisting of 32-bit addresses (e.g., 192.168.1.1), allowing for about 4.3 billion unique IP addresses.
IPv6 (Internet Protocol version 6): This newer version was developed to address the limitations of IPv4, offering 128-bit addresses (e.g., 2001:0db8:85a3:0000:0000:8a2e:0370:7334), which provide an incredibly large number of unique addresses.
